Obituary

Rosemary (Dant) Casey, 93, of Indianapolis IN, formerly of Bicknell IN, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, September 5, 2021, at her home. She was born July 10, 1928, the daughter of Frank Charles and Grace Irene (Melvin) Dant in Vincennes, IN. Rosemary married the love of her life, Roscoe V. Casey, on November 22, 1947, following Roscoe's service in World War II. They were blessed with three children, Brenda Toney, Steve Casey, and Rebecca Schlecht and together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2010.

Roscoe came home from the service in the U.S. Navy to begin his shoe repair business in Bicknell, IN and Rosemary was a housewife. Their business, Casey's Shoe Repair Shop, served them well for several years and then they began to look forward to new challenges and opportunities and moved their family to Indianapolis in 1960. Rosemary began a career working for Indiana Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator and retired in 1984 as a Supervisor's Assistant.

Rosemary is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Tom Clouse) Toney, Rebecca (Mark) Schlecht, eight grandchildren, Paul (Laurie) Casey, Brian Ross, Jason Ross, Matthew (Lisa Yanagida) Ross, Amanda (Mickey) Hall, Sarah Schlecht, Stephen Schlecht, David (Kendra) Schlecht, and four great grandchildren, Sean Casey, Nicholas Casey, Dianne Hall (fiancé Christian Alsip) and Michael Hall. A sister, Marilyn Wools, also survives along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Roscoe V. Casey, a son, Steven Casey, and a sister, Joan Dyer.

Roscoe and Rosemary enjoyed many, many years of traveling throughout the Midwest, East and South in their travel trailer as well as to local state parks. By anyone's standards, she was an accomplished crocheter and knitter and made many lovely gifts. On a given Saturday or Sunday, one would find them selling their hand made gifts at local flea market stands.

Rosemary Dant Casey loved her family, and she will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Nativity Catholic Church, 7225 Southeastern Ave. Indianapolis, IN. Prior to Mass, there will be a visitation at the church at 10:00 A.M. Entombment will follow the Mass at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 435 W. Troy Ave., Indianapolis, IN. The Mass will also be livestreamed at nativityindy.org
