Karen S. Mayo, age 69, died April 30th 2021. She was born on February 11, 1952 to John P. and Alma (Jennings) Sparks, who both precede her in death. Karen attended Triton school system grades one through eleven and graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1970. In 1971 while working at Smitty's Bakery in Beech Grove, she met and married the love of her life, Jeffrey N. Mayo, on November 20th 1971. In 1980 her life long dream of becoming a mother was realized when her daughter, Courtney E. (Mayo) Donner, was born on July 28th 1980.

In addition to working at Smitty's, Karen also operated an in-home daycare nurturing more than 40 children over the years. In 1994 she began her journalism career as editor of the Franklin Township Informer. She finished her working career with Dowdy Electric in 2002.

Karen was involved in many organizations over the years, most of which centered around her daughter. She was very involved with the Wanamaker PTA and the Franklin Township Middle School PTA. She was involved with the Franklin Central High School MAC Club and the athletic booster club. She was a Franklin Township Girl Scout Leader for 12 years, and was very active in the Franklin Township Civic League.

Karen is survived by her husband Jeffrey N. Mayo, daughter Courtney Donner (Jason), her grandchildren, Jason JR., Austin, Zackary and Kaitlin. She is survived by her brothers, Donald (Martha), Johnny (Kathy), Ted Sparks and sister Elizabeth (Gus) Mascari, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Randy Sparks.

Visitation will be Wednesday May 5th from 4pm-8pm at Wilson St. Pierre 5950 East Thompson Road. Funeral service will begin on May 6th at 11am-12pm with a funeral procession following the service to her final resting place at Orchard Hill Cemetery in Wanamaker.
