Harold Russel Yonts, 93, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Harold was born in Letcher County, Kentucky on February 11, 1928 to Farris and Ada Sue Yonts
Harold was born into a large military family. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944, where he served in WWII and the Korean War. He married the love of his life in December of 1955 and went on to have three sons. He attended the Free Presbyterian Church, where he was known as "grandpa" to the children. He also was a member of the Iron workers Local #22, and Beechgrove American Legion Post #276. Harold was a jokester and enjoyed laughing. Harold found joy in hunting and fishing and gladly passed his ethics on to his children, grandchildren and anyone who was willing to listen.
Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Minerva Jane Yonts, three sons; James Russel (Cindi), Ricky Alan, Timothy Wayne (Jane), 5 grandchildren; Justin, Amy, James, Nick and Jake, 1 great grandchild, Jackson, a brother, Duane Yonts (Anna) and a sister, Ella Louise (Major Sparks).
He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers, William Curtis, Ralph, James, Clyde, Herbert, Eugene and two sisters, Stella and Marie.
A memorial service for Harold will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Hendryx Mortuary- Cumberland Chapel, 11636 E. Washington Street Indianapolis, Indiana 46229, at 2:30 P.M. with Pastor Jeff Banister officiating. Friends and family may call from 1 P.M. until the time of service on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made in Harold's Honor to the Indy Honor Flight, P.O.Box 10 Plainfield, Indiana 46168. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
