Wilma Joan Brandes of Indianapolis, IN passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Joan was born a daughter of the late Clarence and Louise Pelley Brown. Joan attended Shortridge High School and Manuel High School where she graduated from. On June 28, 1946 she was married to the love of her life Roy Brandes at Bethany Lutheran Church in Indianapolis. They were able to spend 49 years together before Roy passed away in 1995. Joan retired from WTTV as a PBX operator and receptionist in the lobby. Joan loved life with her family, her church family, and the Shopping Gang. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church since 1946, where she was the church secretary for many years. She was a member of the Abigail Women's Group, sang alto in the church choir and was Crop Walk Chairman. Joan was also a member of the Eastern Star and of a Homemakers Club. Joan is survived by four children; Janice (Stephen) Smith, Deborah (Wes) Hildebrandt, Richard (Barbara) Brandes and Anne (Tim) Engelhardt. 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a brother Bud Bolin and two sisters; Thelma Dill and Bernice French. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 10 AM until 1 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4702 South East Street, Indianapolis, IN 46227. A funeral service will begin at 1 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family have requested that donations be made to Gleaners Food Bank. Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, 7520 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
